First name is required. Last name is required. The automatic identification system AIS is an automatic tracking system that uses transponders on ships and is used by vessel traffic services VTS.
AIS information supplements marine radarwhich continues to be the primary method of collision avoidance for water transport. Information provided by AIS equipment, such as unique identification, positioncourseand speed, can be displayed on a screen or an electronic chart display and information system ECDIS. AIS is intended to assist a vessel's watchstanding officers and allow maritime authorities to track and monitor vessel movements.
AIS integrates a standardized VHF transceiver with a positioning system such as a Global Positioning System receiver, with other electronic navigation sensors, such as a gyrocompass or rate of turn indicator. Vessels fitted with AIS transceivers can be tracked by AIS base stations located along coast lines or, when out of range of terrestrial networks, through a growing number of satellites that are fitted with special AIS receivers which are capable of deconflicting a large number of signatures.
AIS is intended, primarily, to allow ships to view marine traffic in their area and to be seen by that traffic. Port authorities or other shore-based facilities may be equipped with receivers only, so that they can view the local traffic without the need to transmit their own location.
All AIS transceivers equipped traffic can be viewed this way very reliably but is limited to the VHF range, about 10—20 nautical miles. If a suitable chartplotter is not available, local area AIS transceiver signals may be viewed via a computer using one of several computer applications such as ShipPlotter and Gnuais. These demodulate the signal from a modified marine VHF radiotelephone tuned to the AIS frequencies and convert into a digital format that the computer can read and display on a monitor; this data may then be shared via a local or wide area network via TCP or UDP protocols but will still be limited to the collective range of the radio receivers used in the network.
A secondary, unplanned and emerging use for AIS data is to make it viewable publicly, on the internet, without the need for an AIS receiver.
Global AIS transceiver data collected from both satellite and internet-connected shore-based stations are aggregated and made available on the internet through a number of service providers.
Data aggregated this way can be viewed on any internet-capable device to provide near global, real-time position data from anywhere in the world. Typical data includes vessel name, details, location, speed and heading on a map, is searchable, has potentially unlimited, global range and the history is archived. Most of this data is free of charge but satellite data and special services such as searching the archives are usually supplied at a cost.
The data is a read-only view and the users will not be seen on the AIS network itself. Shore-based AIS receivers contributing to the internet are mostly run by a large number of volunteers.
See External links below for a list of internet-based AIS service providers.
What You Need To Know Before Installing AIS
Ship owners and cargo dispatchers use these services to find and track vessels and their cargoes while marine enthusiasts may add to their photograph collections. This was the first mandate for the use of AIS equipment and affected approximatelyvessels.
Low-cost Class B transceivers became available in the same year triggering mandate adoptions by numerous countries and making large-scale installation of AIS devices on vessels of all sizes commercially viable.Download the Android app from the Google Play store. When the numbers in a chart vary widely from data series to data series, or when you have mixed types of data price and volumeplot one or more data series on a secondary vertical value axis.
The scale of the secondary vertical axis shows the values for the associated data series. A secondary axis works well in a chart that shows a combination of column and line charts. You can quickly show a chart like this by changing your chart to a combo chart.
Looking for Office steps? When the values in a 2-D chart vary widely from data series to data series, or when you have mixed types of data for example, price and volumeyou can plot one or more data series on a secondary vertical value axis. The scale of the secondary vertical axis reflects the values for the associated data series.

After you add a secondary vertical axis to a 2-D chart, you can also add a secondary horizontal category axis, which may be useful in an xy scatter chart or bubble chart.
To help distinguish the data series that are plotted on the secondary axis, you can change their chart type. For example, in a column chart, you could change the data series on the secondary axis to a line chart. Secondary axes are not supported in 3-D charts. You can plot data on a secondary vertical axis one data series at a time.
To plot more than one data series on the secondary vertical axis, repeat this procedure for each data series that you want to display on the secondary vertical axis. In a chart, click the data series that you want to plot on a secondary vertical axis, or do the following to select the data series from a list of chart elements:.
On the Format tab, in the Current Selection group, click the arrow in the Chart Elements box, and then click the data series that you want to plot along a secondary vertical axis. On the Layout tab, in the Axes group, click Axes.

Click Secondary Vertical Axisand then click the display option that you want. Right-click the secondary vertical axis, and then click Format Axis. Under Axis Optionsselect the options that you want to use.
To complete this procedure, you must have a chart that displays a secondary vertical axis. To add a secondary vertical axis, see Add a secondary vertical axis. Click Secondary Horizontal Axisand then click the display option that you want. In the Change Chart Type dialog box, click a chart type that you want to use.
The first box shows a list of chart type categories, and the second box shows the available chart types for each chart type category. For more information about the chart types that you can use, see Available chart types.
To change the chart type of more than one data series in the chart, repeat the steps of this procedure for each data series that you want to change. You can also click the secondary axis that you want to delete, and then press DELETE, or right-click the secondary axis, and then click Delete.
When the values in a chart vary widely from data series to data series, you can plot one or more data series on a secondary axis. A secondary axis can also be used as part of a combination chart when you have mixed types of data for example, price and volume in the same chart. In this chart, the primary vertical axis on the left is used for sales volumes, whereas the secondary vertical axis on the right side is for price figures.
In the chart, select the data series that you want to plot on a secondary axis, and then click Chart Design tab on the ribbon. For example, in a line chart, click one of the lines in the chart, and all the data marker of that data series become selected. Begin by installing the radio — power and antenna hookups only — and verify that it works both as a VHF and that you can see the AIS information on the radio display.
Hopefully there will be some boats transmitting AIS signals near you so that you can see them. If you are connecting a remote microphone RAM you can do it now or later.Senza lolfatto quasi ogni aspetto della vita è condizionato
The big thing is to know that the radio is receiving AIS signals before proceeding. Learn more about buying and owning a boat, gaining skills, working on your boat, buying stuff for your boat and moving aboard in Prepare to Cruise free mini-course. However, the basic principles are the same for that wiring.
For those wires, however, the chartplotter or external antenna will be the transmitter and the radio the receiver.
Got a Raymarine chartplotter? On ours, they are in a wire bundle with the power wires — positive and negative — for the chartplotter. They are thin little wires in a variety of colors. This post is just about straight NMEA wiring. The important thing to know is that Garmin uses the power ground wire yeah, the black wire of the red-and-black power wires as the NMEA ground as well. Three of these wires — the gray and brown from the VHF and the brown or violet from the chartplotter — are really thin.“สับปะรด” (Pineapple) หนังสั้นสร้างแรงบันดาลใจ โครงการสานรัก
I use shrink tubing over all connectors. So, from the VHF to the chartplotter it was actually gray-red-violet I used Port 2 and brown-black-black. Turn on the radio. Hold Call Menu until Setup Menu appears. Rotate channel knob to General Setup, press Select. Rotate channel knob to and press Enter. Press Quit twice to get back to main screen. There are four settings that you must change or confirm on the Garmin chartplotter.
Check on the radio that there is a boat within range that is transmitting an AIS signal. You may need to increase the AIS range. Note approximately where the boat is. Then bring up a chart of the area on the chartplotter. Adjust range as necessary so that it includes where the transmitting boat is.
You should see it on the chartplotter. On ours, boats that are not a threat are shown as green triangle outlines. Boats that are a potential danger appear as a solid red triangle with their direction of travel shown as a line.
Boat names are shown for both when you first turn the radio on, it can take several minutes for names to appear in place of MMSI numbers. On ours — admittedly an older unit with a smaller screen — information about the vessel appears on a separate screen.
I move the cursor with the 4-way rocker to the vessel and then press select. The Look ahead mode is activated here and our own vessel is proceeding deg at This ends in a dot, that represents where we will be in 6 minutes, or 1. We are meeting a vessel, steaming in the opposite direction following the traffic separation. This target also has a line and a dot in-front of it representing course and where it will be in 6 minutes user configurableand a track behind it.
The meeting vessel is red, as it is a potential danger to us. An AIS target alert dialog has just popped up.
The cursor is on top of the the meeting vessel on a SW course. As we have not yet received full information, which can take a while, we don't get the name but an id number, called the MMSI number, instead. Exactly what is shown in the yellow pop-up is configured in the AIS tabs Rollover heading. This vessel is identified by name, and has a green color, as it does not represent any danger to our navigation.
Read the pause message. What is an MMSI number? MMSI consists of nine digits. What is an IMO Number? For ships, the IMO number remains linked to the hull for its lifetime, regardless of a change in name, flag, or owner. Instead of just hovering the cursor on an AIS object, double clickand the dialog above pops up. A lot of relevant information is displayed. All tracks recorded will behave just like any other track. This is of course real and the buoy is on position.

Virtual AtoNs are used to quickly make mariners aware of things like new wrecks, uncharted hazards and floating debris. They are normally used for a short duration until replaced by real aids or charted, removed or dispersed.
